BUT all that aside, the vital thing has always been and continues to be… staying HAPPY!’

You are what You AND your Baby eat!

Being pregnant is no excuse for women to eat what they want and to then blame it on the baby! When we are trying to lose or maintain our weight, more often than none, it is not about HOW MUCH you eat, but rather WHAT you eat! Here is a list of vitamins and nutrients which should be included in your daily diet in order to kick start a healthy and well-balanced lifestyle.

Healthy food= Healthy heart beat

Protein (egg whites, tofu, fish and lean meat)

Carbohydrates (fruits and vegtables)

Calcium (milk, yogurt, sardines, salmon, spinach)

Iron (lean red meat, whole grain foods)

It is also vital to steer clear from the bad foods such as…

Alcohol

Caffeine

Peanuts

unpasteurised cheeses/milk/ juices

raw eggs/fish

uncooked meats

How to avoid morning sickness

Foods to eat to avoid sickness include dry foods such as cereals, bread and crackers.  BUT these are also all orms of carbohydrates, and so it is vital to choose whole grain rather their starchy white forms.

Keeping hydrated is also vital, for you and your baby so be sure to drink water inbetween meals. Not only will this prevent you from being sick, but what’s more, often at times when you think you are hungry you are in fact thirsty, your body cannot distinguish between the two! (So keep that in mind before you sneak away for a cheeky snack).

Yummy Mummy Machine

The body and mind are two key aspects to focus on during pregnancy. More so when you consider that a happy and healthy mummy equals a happy and healthy baby!!!

Move it Mom!

A way to keep both mummy and baby content is through a healthy diet and keeping active. Staying in shape tends to promote ‘emotional stability‘ and will ultimately reduce any aches and pains mummy may have!

Yummy Mummy’s seem to have more oomph when it comes to exercise and hence why they look oh so yummy!

Survival of the Fittest Mummy

  1. Usually moms-to-be should exercise for up to two hours each day, preferably early morning or late afternoon.
  1. Staying hydrated during exercise is vital too! You should aim to consume at least 8 to 10 cups of water daily, if not more.
  1. Dress comfortably during exercise so that your skin can breathe, and wear appropriate shoes that do not cause any problems to your ankles, knees or lower back.

Although it is well known that pregnant mums get obscure cravings whilst pregnant, you must still WATCH WHAT YOU EAT!

Return next week for exercise routines to keep you occupied during the pregnancy period!

Mummy Make-over

In order to embrace the transition from Real Mummy to Yummy Mummy a common question must be answered:

How do i turn my baby bump into a fashionable accessory?

Well ladies the answer is simple, the only thing which should change once you start to show is (drum roll please) YOUR DRESS SIZE!

Fashion, can be defined as a ‘Form of Expression’. It is a way for us to portray the women, or in this case, the mothers we are! Becoming a Yummy Mummy is not as straight forward as it sounds. We must ensure we portray a ’sophisticated’  Yummy Mummy rather than a  ‘trashy’ one!

Yummy Mummy’s Top Tips

1) As much as we LOVE that Baby bump, I recommend it is kept underneath your clothes. Tight clothes are great as long as there is no skin on show!

2) Fortunately when a woman is expecting she has a natural glow and so it is good to stick with ‘Mother Nature’ and go with the neutral tones. This obviously varies with your individual complextion:

  • Warm colour group: If you have dark features you should stick to eyeshadows in Copper or Golden Browns, Burgandy Blush is good with Plum lippie.
  • Cool colour group: If your fair your tones should lean more toward lighter shades such as blushing Pink or Lavender. Blusher should be Rose or Mauve  and stick to a soft red lipstick!

3) The day look is always easier to pull off in that it is more about practicality rather than stylish charm. This being said, that does not mean you should settle with tracky bottoms, trainers and a hoodie! There are great outfits out there which are comfortable but still look fabulous!

In the Summertime:

During the Summer ‘Less is More’ so;

  • Maxi dresses are great, especially ones that are tighter around the chest (take advantage of those larger assets whilst pregnant ladies!).
  • A black trouser suit with an open jacket and a tight black top is a simple yet sexy look for all you working moms.
  • Linen trousers are light and stylish, and with a colourful tight top you are ready for casual lunch with the girls.

Whilst in Winter Wonderland:

Winter is always more difficult in that we usually go with ‘the more clothes the better’ but when you’re having a fat day, this is not always the case.

  • Thin Jumpers work well in that they show off your motherly curves whilst keeping you warm.
  • Cardigans are great too in that you can keep them open to show off that cute baby bump.
  • Bottom wise, thick wollen tights or leggings are great in the winter as they help balance out the ratio when you are feeling top heavy!

4) The evenings are usually harder in that you may have someone around to ask ‘Does my bum look big in this?’ I believe for nights out it is best to focus on hair and make-up, and when it comes to ‘what to wear?’ accessorize simple ensembles with jewellery, such as necklaces and earings…Less is more!

There you go ladies, Some great tips to send you on your way to being a Yummy Mummy!
